A crown is essentially an artificial tooth that covers the affected tooth. At our downtown dental clinic, all of our dental crowns are custom made in a proper laboratory facility. Because each crown is custom-fitted, the final result will look, feel, and function like a regular tooth.
A bridge, on the other hand, is a dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth in the case of extraction or other circumstance. Bridges extend across an area with no teeth and are typically made up of an artificial tooth fused between two crowns. Bridges are held firmly and permanently in place by your own teeth or by dental implants.
When Do You Need a Dental Crown or Bridge?
A crown is often necessary following a root canal or a large filling. Dr. Mulhall may also recommend a crown as a way to fix and protect a broken tooth or as a cosmetic solution for stained or disproportionately sized teeth. In preparation for a dental crown, the tooth is shaped to make room for the restoration. For traditional bridges, the teeth surrounding the missing tooth go through a similar resizing and reshaping process.

Impressions
Dr. Mulhall will take impressions of your tooth in order to design a bridge or crown that will look like your natural teeth and will fit comfortably in your mouth. These impressions will serve as a mould for the artificial tooth.
Step 4
We send your impressions to a lab that specializes in fabricating custom dental crowns and bridges. Skilled technicians will ensure the finished piece meets our exact specifications. This process can take from one to two weeks, during which time, we will provide you with a temporary solution to protect your teeth.

Placement
Once your crown or bridge is ready, we’ll remove the temporary restoration and place the custom-made one. Dr. Mulhall will ensure the crown or bridge fits properly and is the right shape and colour. They are then secured with dental cement to ensure long-lasting results.

Following the procedure, you’ll have a smile you can be proud of! You may experience minimal discomfort or sensitivity that will soon pass, and you’ll be left with an artificial tooth that not only looks and feels great but also performs just like your other teeth.
